Description

Blender3D Don’t know how some of you found my Fantasy Novel series, but I’m glad you like the series, and that you took the time to ask how I created the cover for the first two books, and the many images I used in book two. I came across Blender (FREE) and wanted to do some 3D artwork for my books. Blender will drive any sane person completely bonkers… but since I didn’t have that far to go… why not? This Post is what I created in Blender to make the cover for “Amanda Ackers and The Deep Forest Elves,” which is book one of the fantasy series. This image started out as a single cube, which I did my best to sculpt into the red face over the door. The Labyrinth was done one “vertex” at a time, with a connecting “edge” between them, then the spaces between all verts filled in with what they call “faces.” I then had to extrude to take it from a flat image to 3D. The face on the door was a hoot… again, one vert at a time leaving an edge line running between them, then filling the spaces “faces,” then extruding to get depth. The young girl at the door was done in a very old version of Daz Studio, which I used for three days then gave up. I imported her into Blender and she was completely gray! Had to hand color her… ugh! The red mist under the door was my attempt at particles, which actually ended up okay. The entire cave, door, pillars beside the door… all done with Blender. The writing on the door “The Way Is Shut,” was the only thing done in Photoshop, since I couldn’t figure out how to do it in Blender :) Thank you so much for asking about my Novels, and about my struggles with Blender. Yes, I’ll post a few more images I did with Blender a couple years ago… haven’t used it since, the interface had changed so drastically, I can’t even figure out how I did what I had! Several of you had asked to see the larger images I created in Blender for not only the cover of book two, “Amanda Ackers and The Realm Of The Witches,” but also for the images used within several of the chapters. I’ll post those over the next few days once I can find them :)

You put a lot of hard effort into the image and it paid off with a beautiful piece of artwork.

Excellent job doing modelling in Blender! I first learned the program in 2006, and it's changed so much I'm basically starting from scratch to use it again. This is inspiring! I'll have to take another crack at it, seeing what you've done. Really nice work!
