Description
This is sort of a "What the heck is this?" submission. Found it on a dehydrated Hydrangea. Lenght about 1.5 -- 2 inches. Fooling around with that white thing that may have been a cocoon or egg sack.
It is now about 6" in diameter under a brick.
I'm not too savvy when it comes to bugs, so if I don't know what it is, or its potential for danger to self, it gets mooshed.
Anyone know what this is ... was?

Per www.types-of-spiders.org, it's the black and yellow spider aka the Yellow Garden spider, Writing spider, Banana spider or Corn spider Cool looking spider and a good pic too :) Hope that helps, Tim

they not bad at all. it will hurt if you get bite and it you like most people will not feel no sickness at all. they really good at killing all types of bugs we do not like at all. even bugs that eat our flowers they will kill. it is a garden spider or more like a banana spider. they good for us. but do not get in the web and they do look spooky. I got got bite by one that went into my pants at night and i put my pants on and it was in my pants and bite me on the leg. it did hurt but I did not get sick.

Thanks guys. Looks like I killed a "good guy" by mistake. Oh well, plenty more where that one came from I'm sure. I just read that they lay about 1,000 eggs at a time !

I like the shot and I think that the white thing is another bug that it has killed and wrapped up to be eaten at a later date!
