Description

We have loads of Ruby Throated Hummingbirds here in the Northeast US. They are the only indigenous species to this area. I happened to notice one yesterday that was just a little bit different in color, and was able to snap a shot (not this one- this was taken this morning) in order to see if I was just imagining it or it was a trick of the light. Lo and behold, it was a young male- either a Rufous or Allen's- neither of which belong out this way! I'm thinking recent storms must have blown him off course. I just hope that he finds his way back to where he belongs before the cold sets in!

He / she looks like an angelic being, even as a very light-weight, floating gracefully, especially posing for you. And, what a beautiful colors and fantastic shot!

oh.. I love hummingbirds! When I get a house, I hope to have a feeder for them as they are so fun to watch. This one is quite handsome.

Thank you everyone! Said bird is now thought to be a female Rufous Hummingbird. Unfortunately, it seems to have left our area, so I'm hoping it's headed South or West now...it's got a really long journey either way! BUT, still hoping to see it again...;o)

She's so pretty! Hummingbirds are tough little things; I am hoping to plant some things to attract them here next year. I never worry about them and the cats--they are cat proof! And what a wonderful photo!
