Le lac Parent est un élargissement de la Bell, rivière qui se jette plus au nord dans le lac Matagami. Il est situé dans une région marécageuse de l'Abitibi, à peu de distance au nord-est de la ville de Senneterre et à environ 65 km au nord-est de Val-d'Or.
Cette vaste entité lacustre aux formes irrégulières est alimentée par de nombreux cours d'eau, dont les rivières Robin et Lecompte, au nord-est, et Mégiscane, au sud-est.
Ce lac possède une longueur de 53 km, une largeur de 6 km et une superficie de près de 122 km².
Remplaçant l'appellation algonquine de Chabogama ou Shabogama, lac aux chenaux en 1921, cet hydronyme rend hommage à Simon-Napoléon Parent (1855-1920), ancien maire de la ville de Québec et ancien premier ministre de la province de Québec, pour l'ensemble de sa carrière publique.

Lake Parent is an extension of the Bell River, which flows north into Lake Matagami. It is located in a swampy area of Abitibi, a short distance northeast of the city of Senneterre and about 65 km northeast of Val-d'Or.
This large lake with irregular shapes entity is fed by numerous rivers, including rivers and Robin Lecompte, northeast, and Mégiscane, southeast.
This lake has a length of 53 km, a width of 6 km and an area of approximately 122 km ².
Replacing the name Algonquin Chabogama or Shabogama, lake channels in 1921, this hydronyme tribute to Simon-Napoléon Parent (1855-1920), former mayor of Quebec City and former Premier of the Province of Quebec, for his entire public career.
