Description

I am no stranger to the Writer’s Gallery, here on Renderosity, and many regulars to my gallery are no strangers to the fact that I am a writer; it probably comes as no surprise that both my visual and literary art stem from the same source. I suspect that they are expressions of the same thing. I also find it quite telling that I approach visual art through a written medium, and that much of my earliest writing, was a response to something I’d seen. Whenever I post a story here. I create an image to accompany it. Rarely do I post “story related” images without a story, though in some instances, photographs that inspired an extensive story might find themselves edited into a story-accompanying image. (The Onions of Ůtef and the Machine fragments of Agara, and the spacecraft of Nemaea are prime examples.) I suspect other images that inspire stories will pop up. I mention this, because with this post, I can say that this is the very first time I’ve decided to post an image strictly intended to accompany a story. By the time the story built around this image is finished, a smaller, somewhat distorted version of this image will appear again. Unlike the other “Title Images” I’ve created, this one plays well by itself: it’s almost exclusively photographic in nature. Only the implied “text” is a non-photographic import. Everything else came out of my camera, or my previous camera: the one that died when I lived in Prague. Though it’ll be a short time before the story accompanying this image is finished, regulars to my gallery might recognize the seed pods of the Honesty plant, known my many intriguing names, including “Judas’ Coin.” I was struck by the structure of the pea-like seed pods, the manner in which they dry out and separate into three distinct “pages.” I was struck by the method by which I produce “spin and jiggle” night shots, and so I attempted the same with a daytime photograph. I didn’t spin or jiggle, but I created a composite image out of a single image, layered on top of itself. No two layers share the same orientation, and as a result of that, an almost rigid, almost fractal shape emerges. With a little bit of a tweak (and the application of diffusion filters) the image becomes…well…what you see here. Hints of the story (as I’m writing it) appear in the image as well. The title is written there. Faintly. And I bring this up, because like a world based on the presence of onions, there is another world, based on the presence of seed pods, and unlike the world based on the presence of onions, the world based on the presence of honesty pods will appear long after its title image. As always, thank you for viewing, reading, and commenting, and I hope you’re all having a great week.

If this is your title page it certainly generates interest in what follows. Arranged as they are, the pods look like shields. Outstanding graphic work. I look forward to the story.

I like this a lot! It's a super image for a title page. I can already feel the mood of the story just looking at this! Hope the writing is going well ... I'm looking forward to reading the story. Your work is always a pleasure!
