Description

Today I played around with Bryce terrains, This is what came out. Please zoom in to see the details! I found a way to create forested mountains. It's a rather simple trick: Create a high-res terrain with a rocky texture. Save the Heightmap! Blend the Heightmap with a grainy material about 5-10 %. I use an image editor; it should be also possible to do this in the Bryce terrain editor. Duplicate the terrain (ctrl+d), delete the highmap and load the new hightmap. Make a material: I use atmospheric clouds, make them green and scale down about 500% (bump 999%). Rotate, scale and move the green terrain, only a tiny little bit! Should be very close to the rocky terrain but not completely cover the rocks. The same way, you can create mossy rocks for example.

Very nice! Looks a little like some of the mountains in New Hampshire. I like the hazy atmosphere, too.

Very pretty. I have used a similar technique to put snow on terrains and other objects as well.
