Description

F8614 is a reproduction and bears the name "Triple First" in recognition of the first ever non-stop transatlantic flight in 1919 and two other record-breaking flights to Australia and Cape Town. In May 1967 the Vintage Aircraft and Flying Association decided to build a Vimy replica to commemorate the 50th anniversary of the Alcock and Brown's trans-Atlantic flight. Vickers Vimy This was not an easy plane to try and photograph, it is huge! The insert on the left is a propeller located below the engine on the right, with another below the engine on the left. The insert on the right is the suspension on the undercarriage. Have a good weekend, Clive

One of the very much cooler aircraft in the Hanger, even if not an original.. (Alcock and Browns original Atlantic crossing Vimy IS in the Science Museum still).. Well caught mate! Rob

Cool capture, you've got to love this for the sheer size of it.....I have a very similar shot of this, though mine has an 'original' debbielove in front getting a close-up of the engine :-) I don't recall the fighter with the thistle on it! but if memory serves, we were a bit rushed around this place due to it's being about to close..10/10+ a really great series...
