Description

This is a ground-plane material trial in Vue. It needed a real "plane" so I thought I'd add my WW2-era USAAF "Ferry Command" B24A/LB30 model. "LB" is Consolidated's shorthand for "land bomber." Land- The ground plane has a material with alpha-mapped layers to add roads, meandering creeks and different-hued paddocks to a ground-plane to try to catch something of the "Outback" flying experience. Each layer (roads, creeks etc) "tiles" at a different scale so repetition is far less obvious in the foreground and the atmosphere hides the distant repeat of individual layers. Bomber- If you've not seen me post this model previously, the B24A was an early export version (hence the RAF night bomber camouflaque) of what would later become the USAAF B24 "Liberator" - the well-known daylight heavy bomber. Note the snub-nose and the lack of turrets. When the USAAF was caught unprepared by the rapidly deterioriating situation in Europe, it took poorly-armed and mostly-unarmoured B24As from foreign consignments and immediately pressed them into service as long-range cargo/passenger planes. The aircraft depicted, "74," has its US neutrality markings painted out, as it would have appeared flying here "Down-Under" after the Pearl Harbor attack. Thanks for viewing and comments

Superb image. I love everything about it. The terrain and bomber especially. I always get a kick out of steelrazer's avatar because it looks like he is hitting a blunt.

Your history lessons about the lesser-known parts of the Pacific War are always insightful.
