Description
Anasazi settlements in North America between 11th century and 14th century. The Aztec Ruins were mistakenly thought by explorers to be relics of the Aztec civilisation.

Oh, I love these! Whether they're distinctly Aztec or not...but then, there are a number of similarities and some contemporary, surviving tribes (the Ute Nation, for example) speaks a language that members of the Toltec nations would understand. I just can't remember which nation. Oh well... ...I love this shot and the regularity of the structures. This is great. Wonderful light and shadow byplay!

I have walked through several ancient native ruins here and I have always been fascinated by the size of the size of the rooms the people occupied. To think that 4 or more lived in each of these "houses" is unbelievable. We complain about living in a 1000 sq. foot house and they all squeezed happily into a space only a fraction of that and praised their god for such richness.
