Description

We drove up to Bellingham on Tuesday and wandered around Zuanich Park for a while. A hilltop garden bed was absolutely covered in old-fashioned rose bushes, all gone to hips. I've never seen such a sight! Everything from deep, dark red to pale gold, with a few late blooms still giving proof to the variety.

Those are some amazingly voluptuous rose hips! I saw a few here in Chicago, but they weren't like these! Amazing! They almost look like some other sort of fruit, or maybe like the vividly-colored mating appendages. This is quite amazing.

Such a great idea to show those masts in the background! Rosa rugosa thrives in a maritime environment and loves our cliffs in Bournemouth. My mind was racing for a moment when I misread the title as Bloomers amongst the hips: images of the Ladies changing room at the pool with just one pair of buttocks clothed in those Directoire knickers.

Go back when they are nearly dry and pick some, take them home and start some roses from seed. It is difficult to do but it can be done and they will be just a lovely in a corner of your yard next year.

At first quick glance I thought these were apples. Its a lovely bloom if rather shy. I agree, the marina makes a great background.

A fascinating range of colors here. I never thought of these as being edible, but they sure are beautiful! I'll have to research these a little bit. A great shot, Tara!
