You should see the other guy- provided you can find enough of him... Following the events in "A Tale of Two Captains"- Nova Trek books 5,6 and 7- the Enterprise puts into dock at Starbase One for needed repairs.

In the next story, she's compared to the B-17 of WW2. They would get wings blown apart, holes in the fusilage, tails blown off- and still make it home.
