I can't be absolutely certain, but this looks almost like a species of slime mold that's gone reproductive. I had a few encounters with those and they all took on this misshaped bread-loaf sort of appearance. Of course I could be totally wrong, but at any rate, this is a wonderful shot of fungal exuberance. I love the warm tones. I haven't seen too many fungi this year, and so it's good to see an interesting example of something here on Renderosity. This is great!

It looks like it bubbled up from underground and then cooked solid in the sun. This has been the summer of Kim's strange mushrooms!

to me it look like a lobster mushroom,it is a mutation or very similar ,it is a fungus that grows on top of others mushrooms and by that fact made them to difform .it is usely comestible[as long as you can identify the specie nder the fungus]it have an excellent taste.but you should buy it in a supermarket in a dry form ,this less risky very nice shot
