Description
of the Iceberg Floribunda variety.
Captured 10/2/12, early AM, outside of my usually congenial condominium complex, where there are tons/tonnes of these blooms.
A ZOOM, unless otherwise stated, would be most cool. It's a color shot, although it looks like a black and white.
The best way to shoot these demure beauties for contrast is with back and/or side lighting. Otherwise they are a complete blah to photograph, especially on an overcast day. But they are hardy and resilient, even in extreme heat, and grow in bunches. Great for landscaping, and why they're grown all over the city.
Sayonara, and have a nice day.

A stunning capture of this lovely rose and I love how the light is just playing on them. A great way to start your day with taking a photo of a rose.

Excellent lighting on these beauties. White Roses are quite dramatic.

Wowee zowee, Harry, you've done yourself proud on this one! What a stunning capture of these often-overlooked beauties. Excellent lighting that really pops the textural details on the petals. Well done you!

I agree with all the comments, and especially like Denise's gushing. I promised myself I'd do some of your halloween shots---always a treat, each year, (and great that you find all these amazing monsters in your neighborhood and then single them out with your fine postwork)---but when I don't comment in many days, I can't stand not commenting on the older ones, so I invariably don't make it to the finish line on time. But how could I pass-up this image? This is breathtaking. And I appreciate your technical advice: I really never thought about the lighting-position (ie, back, side, etc): Your choice works wonders here. But what's also perfect is your sense of the near made-of-light quality of the petals, when seen in this light. Or of the way they feel like apparitions against those deep blacks behind them. (If those blacks are from your settings and/or postwork, it's masterful work on your part. You show graphics-sensibilities many times in your gallery, and this is one of those times.) Of the whispered flowers in the background, just enough to take us back into space. Or of your sensitivity to the contours of the leaves right alongside the 'flatness' of some, as if they were sheets of pure light. Or of the morph from light to shade as some petals move from their tip to the connecting base...Another of your beautiful, wholly at-ease flower pieces; and while it has definite dimensions, the dark around it seems to go on forever as if your image emerges out of an infinite recess of space. Smashing, poetic, and quite touching work...
