Description

The Badger... not one of Mamma Nature's most cuddliest of creatures.... mean, vicious, bad tempered... sharp teeth and claws.... dangerous as all get out... dogs, coyotes, and wolves fear this little animal. Not as famous as his cousin, the Wolverine (he you get a top-notch comic character named after you... your life is gravy... There was a Badger comic character a few years a go... not quite the same fame or ooomf). A badger is fearless and will charge anything it sees as a threat. Which is why this shot is not one of the smartest things I've ever done but I had to get it because ... hey... look at that face... ain't he cute... he's looking at me, wondering.. "just what is that monkey up to?" I followed him as he went through culverts in a small prairie town. I saw him go into a culvert under a road and went to the centre of the road o take his picture as he came out... I stayed as till as possible, became part of the background, he was about 15 feet away from me, I was downwind of him, he couldn't smell me... I got off about ten shots before he snuffled and went back to hunting... A black and white of this image is currently in a photography show here in Medicine Hat, at Medalta... you do stupid things to get great shots... hope you enjoy!

Hi! Wow! I have never seen one of these. I'm in eastern Pennsylvania. We don't have these. I did have a close call with a porcupine the Summer before last though. LOL. Thank God my dog was farther up the path. PS ... I thought it was so cool that my thumb is a closeup of an eye and then I looked at your title and saw, "Are you lookin' at me?" :) Hope ya' have a great weekend!

I have always admired and championed badgers. I own a badger dog but not for it's ability to "ferret" them out of their dens. It's because this creature, pound for pound, is a creature who has earned respect and is decidedly very lovely to look at. This is an outstanding shot and in Zoom, shows a lot of his character.

These guys are cute, but far from cuddly. They fight like a wolverine and can smell like a skunk. Very territorial, they will fight to the death when pushed into a corner. Awesome shot!

Your narration was most comical and quite humorous while reading....I can relate to said Badger being that I'm from Wisconsin and I too had a most heart stopping encounter though many years ago when I was about 13 and was out in the back forty clearing brush from a property line and stumbled across some burrows but wasn't sure what kind until stupidity reared it's ugly head and I proceeded to "poke" a stick into said burrow and to my surprise out popped Mr. Badger which my 1st response was to "run" (which was the second most stupid thing I did inside of a 5 minute span)and bolted for this cluster of crab apple trees with Mr. Badger hot on my trail.Though my Dad and Grandpa had enlightened me about Badgers the one thing they failed to mention was that Badgers "can" climb tree's....lol...Well just about the time I thought I was going to look forward to a rabies shot my Grandpa came to my rescue and chased him away...."Whew"....lol... As for cute....Yes very much so but not so much when starring face to face with one that has an attitude...lol.. Your capture is stunning and as far as stupidity...only admit stupidity if you had been discovered...lol....Case in point....what happen to me......rofl!

What a great shot and so true!! They are terribly vicious, but you get sucked in by that adorable face and convince yourself it could not possibly be true. :)

So, that's what a Badger looks like? !!! and that's what parents mean, by saying to those pesky little kids! 'don't badger me now' or 'go and badger your Mother' ;) they still look cute, cuddly and harmless ... now I will google the rest of it, the other half (or 2/3). BB
