Ran into these guys in the last 5 minutes of my hike today. They let me get to about 8 feet away..

I once asked Fish and Game here how to tell a regular crane from a sandhill so when I practiced my wildlife artistry, I was not interfering with any endangered or protected species. The officer told me the difference was so very slight in many instances that it would be best not to immortalize any cranes unless I had it typed by an officer of his department. They are very beautiful and I know they are even more amazing when seen first hand, although, your photo comes very close to a personal visit. :-)
