Description
We in the West tend to practice our religion on the weekends. In Nepal people carry it with them every day. But the Nepalese are a practical people. They may worship at an ancient shrine but also recognize that it may make a perfect platform for drying the laundry.
On my walk into the Kathmandu Valley, on my way to the sacred hill of Swayambhu, I came across this scene. The brown mass at the bottom of the shrine are drying cow patties to be used as fuel. And, yes, that is a tree growing out of the top.

... and next to the cow patties, it appears to be some other fuel - for consumption? and that is how you get 'Dehli belly' ... ;) or ;( Will the tree finally outgrow it all and bring it down to rubble? but I do love this domesticated scene, it is the real life - but it also tells me of life of the former glory days, when the tree was only a little plant ... every picture tells a story. an amazing view and find, well observed Mark, BB

This platform has the tree alone is something "temple-like" per se. and he is also schattenspender. He kind of reminds me of a village place.

I love all the layers here starting at the bottom with the dung and working my eyes to the top of the tree. People above all must be practical and be about their lives. This really brings that home. Super shot.

Before enlightenment, chop wood cary water. After enlightenment, chop wood cary water. Putting laundry on a shrine seems quite practical, and enlightenment doesn't live in the shrine anyway. Great shot!
