Description
This lovely animal lived 47 million years ago in the Eocene era when the earth was covered in a steamy rain forest from pole to pole. It looked very close to a lemur but it had opposable thumbs and fingernails rather then claws.
Only one fossil has ever been found and it was found in Germany. It was a nine month old juvenile female which was 95% intact. The fossil included some fur and skin, even some stomach contents. It seems she ate seeds, leaves and fruits. They named her Ida.
This is my portrait of Ida as I imagine her to be curious, playful and bright.
Thank you so much for you kind comments and favorites on my last picture "Farm in Autumn"

Cool image! Yes, she does in many ways resemble a Lemur. We have those here at the Bronx Zoo in our Madagascar exhibit. Perhaps they are somehow decendants?

Both the title and the composition made me think of Charles Darwin and evolution! :) Such a fabulous little creature indeed, and seems playful enough to approach. Excellent scene and atmosphere!

I imagine she is fast too. But I think she is happy to just experience the beautiful butterfly without catching it. It's wonderful to see her in her environment and imagine her and her fellows scampering over the landscape. Beautiful detail, light, and composition. I love seeing representations of the Earth in previous eras. The scene has both a familiar and alien look to it. I like the lush green with accents of white and deep pink. Excellent work!

Another punch to the shins for the dinosaurs. She's adorable! Your composition and pose are as good as any I've seen in a museum! Excellent lighting too! Maybe she's our ancestor???
