Description
This operation in April and May 1938 gave the Navy added experience in search tactics; in the use of Submarines, Destroyers, and Aircraft in scouting and attack, in the dispositions of the fleet and the conduct of a major fleet battle. In addition, the exercise again dealt with the matter of seizing advanced fleet bases and defending them against minor opposition. Fleet Problem XIX also tested the capabilities of the Hawaiian Defense Force, augmenting it with fleet units to help to defend the islands against the United States fleet as a whole. The last phase of the exercise exercised the fleet in operations against a defended coastline.
In my image I've had to substitute some ships to make up the fleet for this operation (for lack of the correct ships to use)... ALL total there are 9 ship models and 4 aircraft in the scene...
USS Arizona (By me) was actually present for this operation.
USS Vincennes CA-44 (By Briney) was also present as was USS Vestal (By me), along with many other large and small fleet units.
USS Essex (By BeyondVR) is standing in for Yorktown, Also present were USS Ranger and USS Enterprise (I've only got 1 Carrier in this scene to save on space, otherwise all the ships would be so small you wouldn't see half of them... lol)
Standing in for other larger and smaller units are my HMCS Snowberry (to fill in for the smaller corvettes, escorts and gunboats) and Briney's USS Chicago to flesh out the cruiser escort units. I know that neither of these ships were there at the time... but I needed something to fill out the scene...
Aircraft are my own O3U Corsair Scout Aircraft.

It is a great expression. I thank you for it. 5+!

Nicely done! Question - was this the exercise that Yamamoto used as the "foundation" for the strike on Pearl Harbour, several years later?
cschell
In essence yes it was... this fleet exercise dealt with exactly the type of situation that developed when the Japanese attacked Pearl Harbour and Midway and in part was supposed to help the Navy prepare for hostile attacks by a large naval force on the Hawaii.

excellent

Good to see the fleet getting together.... and they render up together nice and convincingly - I see you've matched the textures too...

Ty Briney and thanx for your excellent ships... they work rather well and I was quite pleased with how they worked out after matching the textures to my own ships. :)

Get busy and build the rest!!!!! (Yeah sure, I think I should talk or maybe whisper, there's a lot of hard work there). ;)
