Description
Twenty years after the fall of the Government all children, at reaching the age of 14, are collected and sent to re-training facilities. There, they are educated to do various jobs ranging from chefs to "companions". The elites make the selections based on whatever drives their urges on any given day, nothing more or less.
The adults, 25 years and above, are rounded up and taken to "relocation" centers where they are never heard from again...
All labor is done by the youngest members of the lower casts... assisted by machines and robots. After the fall of The Democratic Union, all resources were focused on making life more pleasant for the Elites. So, industry slowed to a crawl while science and technology sped up at lightning speed. This advance in science was not available to any but the richest of the population. Millions of people across the globe struggled and starved while the change took place.. those who survived surrendered and became little more than drones following orders without question so that they might live for another day.

Hmm... Is this the same setting as The Mechanic? No wonder that dude is pissed off! Any world that abuses its children like that deserves to be burned to the ground. I imagine there may be some underground movement that runs a railroad to get the children away from the Elites and keep them "re-education"? I think this is a great idea for a setting. You need to explore this more.

Killer work bud, great job. A scenario that has been explored by many of the great Speculative Fiction writers of out time. Unfortunately not out of the realm of possibility at all, at least as long as we allow our so called Leaders and Lawmakers to be Bought and Paid for by the Rich and Powerful. Peace

Excellent story and the image that goes with it. A scary story because that kind of future is not solely in the realm of fiction. The way our world is turning at this point seems to be on the verge of becoming what you've created here..a dark future for those who do not live in mansions...instead those who toil under the yoke of the elite while seeing nothing bright in their collective futures. Absolutely brilliant work, Seth! You made me think so much with this piece. And one thing that occurs to me is that this is already and has always been the story of humanity. The working class has always toiled at the pleasure or whims of the elite. Locally, for instance, in the coal mines. But what a scary scenario in that the last ace in the hole for the working class, the power of consumerism, is completely removed in the possible future you present. Not so unthinkable at all as humanity itself is reduced to a commodity! Excellent work, buddy!
