Description

This is south Floridas version of Big Foot. S/he hangs around where we fish. We are all safe up on an elevated walkway. The most fun of fishing here is that we have to reel in the fish between the hungry alligators. It is like an obstacle course. None of us have actually measured any of them but we guess the length at between 6 to 12 feet (1.83 to 3.66 meters). The negative part is that the alligators take the hook, line and sinker. So the game is to identify the fish and decide if it is edible or not and then is it big enough to bother. Next, the rumor is that if you get caught feeding the alligators, you can lose your fishing license. We are all over 65 years old so there is no license to lose. :o} The reason that you are looking at this photo is that we are leaving New Hampshire and heading to Delray Beach, Florida. On a good day, it is about a 24 hour drive but when we stop to visit family and friends, it takes a week. Somewhere between 1500 to 1600 miles (2414 to 2575 km). I hope to be back up in about a week. Photo taken with my old Minolta. Zoom to check out the details. Thanks for stopping by, taking a look and for all your previous favs and comments. They are very much appreciated. Dana

This guy is mammoth! I read an article about a tour guide down there who dangled fish over the side of the boat because they weren't seeing any gators on the tour. Guess what? A gator sprang up and took part of his arm off. Then? He got fined for feeding the gators. That's what I read at least. Have a fun trip!

Gosh is it time for you to move back to Florida again, your summer seems to have gone so quickly. Great that you can move to a warmer place for the winter, you have the best of both worlds. This is a fabulous capture of this predator, you wouldn't want to fight him for a fish. Have a good trip and we will catch up again soon.

Great shot. I got to see some of these monsters (& I say that in an affectionate way) on an airboat trip through the Everglades quite a few years ago. An impressive sight, from a safe distance of course...

Looking so docile! - is a mistake to believe that, I keep out of his way - I am no Steve Irwin and don't wish to go fishing there either. You guys must be all very brave ... happy tripping, take care! BB
