Description

This is the last one on Tirol Castle. The POV is from the chapel entrance, on the right you can see the rail along the steep steps, and looking at the keep and other buildings. On the right there is also a covered passageway, built in the 19th centiry, which connects the two main parts of the compound. In modern times parts of the castle fell into the so-called Koestengraben or the Chestnut Trees' ravine, a steep gorge below the castle. It was even sold in order to be used as a quarry. In the 19th century the castle was restored; the keep was rebuilt in 1904. The courtyard isn't very large, and there are no stables for the cattle, pigpens or chicken pens, etc. which means they usually were outside the castle, especially when it was used mostly as a residence, albeit fortified. Probably the best horseflesh was stabled somewhere under the covered wooden passageway. Some servants and traders came from the village, half an hour afar on foot, but most probably the domestic staff had their huts built along the external wall. Only the extended family and superior household servants lived inside. Since heating was a problem the rooms were wainscoted, and people lived very close to each other. Privacy wasn't an option. Thanks for your kind comments.

yeah but maybe people even felt closer to each other because they had to cuddle together for generating some warmth. now in the times of today nobody even smells "real" anymore everybody uses fragrances and lotions and nobody wants body contact (except in the dark under the sheets lol). nobody even looks you in the eyes when you cross em in the streets. wether the eyes on a portable device or demonstratively looking the other side. not stink but natural body smell i mean.
