Description
Aeshna cynanea. A common species in the South of England, local elsewhere.
This lady was trying to lay her eggs anywhere but in the water: here she is laying in the crack in the scaffold plank that acts as a bridge over my pond.

Curious since they are supposed to deposit their eggs in still or flowing water. This is a particularly handsome specimen. A superb image. Bears a slight resemblance to a Hawker-Harrier.
