This is the time of Durga puja (offering to Goddess Durga). Mother Durga is believed to come to earth to slay the mighty Demon Mahisasura (half human half buffalo). We, the Hindus in north India celebrate this festival on Autumn... Here we see a devotee offering Arati (a traditional dance in front of idol to welcome her). Arati is done with many things - starting from Diya (small lamp), Agarbati (scented smoke stick), sweet and may be with precious jewel, gold, silver etc. Here he is performing Arati with Dhunuchis (earthen pot filled with coconut skins and scents and firing them up). For safety purpose and restriction from fire safety organisations, Arati is performed without live fire in public pujas like this.
