Description

Really needs a full size look. Today I start you on a tour of Old Istanbul. This is the City of Constantinople, the capital of the Byzantine Empire and the Roman Eastern Empire. It sits on the tip of the Golden Horn and hence my play on words for the title. It still has much of the ancient city wall intact running through the modern city of Istanbul. It was indeed a Golden Morn. I was awakened close to 5:00 AM by the Call to Prayer. Unlike many westeners I love the melodic haunting call of the Iman, especially in the morning. And especially in Istanbul. To me it helps give the city a feel of the ancients and reminds me fully that I am in a land of Islam. And that I am a guest, a stranger. I believe we would all be better off if we spent more time in places where we are a minority, especially a visible one. Anyways, once awakened by the call I took advantage of a beautiful morning to climb onto the roof of my hotel and capture the sunrise over the hills that contain the Asian side of Istanbul. Before me lay the sleepy Old City and then the beautiful blue Bosphorus Strait as it enters the Sea of Marma. Here you see the only city in the world that resides on two continents. Europe is in front; Asia is in the distance.

what a most execllent photo Roxy, the zoom is awesome checking out various things on the roof tops. stack of chairs, lots of satilite dishes, such a slow paced place and beautiful place to be. unlike our smoggy cites and huge crowds. 10+ on the shot my friend.

The image makes me wonder how much of the old, old city is still there. Such vast history and world changing events have happened here. Sage words about putting ourselves in other places. I know the feeling and definitely grew from the experience. It gave me regrets of an attitude I'd once had. That's how I knew I grew from the experience which allowed the regrets to fade, but not forget. Love the effects/postwork. It really gives the feeling of dawn. The ship on the horizon is cool too and brings back memories.

You have taken the shining hour before the city comes to life. Before the sun climbs higher and the city brings to moan. The enterprising people rushing through the streets and entice the tourists, to purchase. I marvel at the large cities in Turkey, who give themselves very European and only a few kilometers from the city, the real traditional roots of islam to live. But that's as varied life. I enjoy the morning hour on your picture.
