Description
Or blod, whatever.
My favorite holiday of the year, with more of these gems to come.
Dracula captured off a neighbor's front lawn, 10/22/12; the background from somewhere else on 4/14/08.
Postwork galore on this.
ZOOM, if you dare.
Cheerybye, and have a nice day/night.

lord, it's over 2 hours now, and I've only begun. But I had to do at least one halloween shot before I stopped (and there are more plane shots, and another padlock shot, etc, awaiting me...and btw, it was really nice to see planes back in your gallery after a short absence). Re this, I always can see a keen graphics sense in your halloween series, because you always make a complete design out of them. I assume that the actual monsters are---in real life---surrounded by cars and trees and other stuff that gets in the way of your vision. So you postwork them, either to eliminate the clutter around them, or---here---by giving them an appropriate background. The house/mansion is perfect for Sir Bat of the Night: You've toned down the mansion and fence, and (I assume) darkened the sky until it looks brooding and pregnant with menace. And you've done a terrific job with the highlights and clarity of the vampire himself: After all, I assume that when you shot him---ie, in his original setting---you couldn't get all this light and detail too easily. Real life makes it hard. So you show, in these monster shots, that you know how to bring out the nature of each face, including their highlights, their sinister glee, etc; and how to blend them with whatever background you choose. (Or alter, if you keep the background partly intact.) In other words, it's fine graphic work, Harry, which I really appreciate, having come from graphics myself. As for the holiday itself: I agree about the joy of this holiday: It's one of the only times of year where speaking of and depicting the dead is a joy, where corpses and ghosts and skeletons and monsters become a giddy parade and dance, where we dance with and have fun with death itself, and we transform all that's scary and sobering into a joyous carnival of spirits. And then, it's surrounded by great light and shadows---if only October lasted all year---by beautiful colors, at least in some parts of the country, and by a cooling air---which, this year, is particularly welcome after the grueling summer (and, for you, the early fall as well). All that is woven into this time of year, going back to roots in the harvest, in the joy of celebrating all one's harvested, and of sharing it with loved ones. (This predates all religious connections of "All Saints Day" by centuries.) And also, with the ancient legend of the spirits of one's loved-ones coming back to speak with us, tell tales to us, and give us wisdom and strength. Those old legends had a lot of love in them...All that sits behind this wonderful time of year; and it's great that you honor it with your collection of macabre, laughing and dancing spirits-in-the-night. I've seen them all, right to the present; and it always makes your gallery a feast, every fall. I'll try to be back sooner next time, but as always it's a pleasure to come here; in addition to learning a lot from your work, I always wind up seeing so much that I hadn't seen. Terrific work all around, and great work with the creatures of the night...
