Very tricky to ID, Alan, unless you have pics of the gills and had a sniff at them too. You could start with the Tricholoma genus maybe. I have a great book which you would love..I recommend it to you. Collins Complete Guide to British Mushrooms and Toadstools by Paul Sterry and Barry Hughes.
