Description

An effort to duplicate the "life support belt" shown in the Animated Star Trek series. Rendered in Poser Pro 2012, initial set-up in Poser 6 due to limitations of MetaForm. Used: Michael 4 Valiant clothing with JamesJAB's textures (converted to Poser by Mylochka) The P4 medical tricorder by tonyo1701 at Xcalpro.com P4 phaser 2 by tonyo1701 "Batamns Belt" (sic) by Rigo40 Dystopia's Skydome, night texture Ground has the PebbleGround material from PoserWorld applied. Phaser beam and belt field effect were both created using MetaForm by WeirdJuice, run in Poser 6. (MetaForm does not work in Poser 7 or higher.) Field has Ambient set to .5 for a mild glow, Transparency and Transparency fall-off are both set to 1.0 to create the outline effect of the shield. Ambient and Diffuse color are the same.

I'm surprised they never expanded on this concept in the other series. They just happened to land on a lot of M -Class planets...

I think it's because what was a very cheap solution for animation was a very expensive solution for live action. I've heard some fans explain it away as a short-lived Star Fleet experiment; something about too many power supply failures while in the vacuum of space. [wry smile]

Thank you! I wish they'd come out with a modern version of MetaForm; there's a lot you can do with it. It makes some lovely flames for torches, for example, and is a good way to do a re-creation of Marvel's Human Torch. Our computers are more powerful these days, so it wouldn't be nearly the drag on resources that it used to be.
