Description
An ancient Mayan calendar that has been accurately keeping time for thousands of years will inexplicably run out of dates some time around the Winter Solstice in 2012. How will the world end?
Here is Scenario #4:
4 Falling Stars:
Tunguska II
Or III. Or IV. In 1908, a huge chunk of space debris was captured by Earth's gravity and exploded in the atmosphere over an area near the Tunguska River in Russia. If the kinds of objects that punched holes in Jupiter in 1994 were to strike Earth, the results would be truly cataclysmic. Perhaps we can send something into space that's capable of blasting an asteroid or comet out of the way before it can strike. If not, then let's brace ourselves-- because the chaos that would precede the disaster will be far worse than the actual event.
