Description
On a part of our hike through Tent Rocks, the canyon narrowed to just a few feet wide & it was there that we spotted this tarantula. I've seen them in zoos & pet stores, but never in the wild before. Several other hikers came by & took pictures of it, though they seemed reluctant to get too close & used their telephotos. No wimpy telephoto for me - I got down to an inch or two in macro mode & took this shot up close & personal. Brave or just stupid? Maybe a little of both...
Please zoom for maximum hairiness.

Kudos to you for this shot, me, I would have used a little zoom. I've seen a tarantula walking around and never seen them jump like some spiders do but if it did I'd probably drop my camera. Great shot.

I've never seen one except in pet stores. A little scary and very, very cool!

How big is she? Like a child's hand or hand? Large enough to cover a bald spot? (Just hairy as she is.) I've she seen only in pictures. A beautiful animal...

We used to see those guys around here a lot. The feral cats love to play with them. Great photo. Some kinds of tarantulas can shoot hairs at you which causes skin irritation.

We had one as a pet years ago. Don't remember it being harmful. I think it was scared of my daughter. Great capture!

Beautiful macro shot and a good idea to have stayed away from the fangs.
