Hi friends! Thanks for your interest and your fine comments for my last pic and a special THANKS to durleybeachbum ! When we first came to Chateau Pillnitz and we detected the "Great Camellia", I didn`t know what it was. My interest was by the greenhouse and a bunch of very interesting people listen to a guide or gardener. Later I detected a narrative somewhere and did some recherches by the i-net - about this tree and the old japanese culture from where it once came from. We didn´t know that the plant get in full blossom between January and April every year, and so we decided to take another short trip to Saxony at the Easter Days weekend in 2009. We got a lot of luck: The weather was bright and friendly and the Camellia was in full blossom... The tree reaches 9 meters in high and a crown diameter of more than 11 meters. The plant produces more than 35 000 single blossoms, which can be bought by visitors as young tribes, too. The greenhouse was closed these days. The entrance and the look from the gallery was 2,- €. Meanwhile you have to pay entrance for the whole park (8,-€) - against heavy protests of the people of Pillnitz, who want a free entrance in "their" park.
