Description

these painted churches in Bucovina in northern Romania were very special.. world heritage sites and quite unique. The walls,interriors and exteriors were painted with religious scenes, stories, history. They date from the 16thc and are remarkably fresh and colourful today. The churches were surrounded by walls with watchtowers to protect the people from invasions and the paintings were there to give them hope and encouragement in times od danger. Epic foto of the church with its meticulously painted images on the wall, Jean. It appears they have held up relatively well over the ages. And, I like the rose plants in the foreground.
