Description

This is the same fungi that I posted two days ago. Just to show the top POV. I guess I should have done a collage in the first place. A strange fungi growing in the rock garden near our mailbox. I hope that someone can ID it. Photo taken Thursday. Do zoom. Thank you Bluart for the ID. I should have mentioned that yesterdays posting was a plastic sailfish and no sailfish were injured while taking that photo. Thanks for stopping by, taking a look and for all your previous favs and comments. They are very much appreciated. Dana

it still looks like a form of the bracket fungi and they do grow from the ground as well according to the 'shroom book I have. Very cool capture Dana

Funny about the sailfish, it sure looked real! Like the fungi, it almost looks like layered rock, but don't tell us tomorrow that it was plastic, instead, tell us it was really a seashell, LOL!

From this angle it looks more like some decorative rock you would put in a fish tank. :~)

It almost looks like stone itself; good camouflage for a fungus in the ground, I guess. It's fascinating!

very good capture of this fungi, to answer your question this mushroom is a polyporus the exact specie is hard to tell,.base on color and circular ring i can say it is a cinnamon polyporus[xanthochrous tomentosus] the problem is mainly all polyporus grows on tree or decayed wood, of course there is always exception maybe it is attach to a root of a nearby tree probably a spruce wich can
