Thanks for the comments everyone! I tried to focus on the idea that the one she would normally need to be saved FROM was actually saving her, making the ultimate sacrifice, and instead of just running away she is taking the time, possibly to her own demise, to say "Thank You". Gratitude, even to a monster, is never wasted. I may re-envision the scene from another viewpoint, showing the woman's face since we seem to be so dependent upon relating to the 'human' experience.
