Description
"Schlossberghoehle" - the man - made castle`s caves in Homburg Saar / Germany.
Build deep inside a soft sand/sandstone hillside , beyond a former french bastion (which - once upon a time has been a german castle).
The sand had mainly been used for glass manufacturing, starting in the early medieval times already.
12 levels, of which only one is open to visitors, in due to the soft structure of the sandstone.
A tunnel connecting a hotel on top of the mountain and a brewery in the valley.
From a geological POV, an interesting layer of sediments, since it started out as a desert - a petrofied dune and later been covered by the sediments of an ocean.
Some sandstone sealings show tracks of lizard like creatures, predating the dinosaurs we know ;-)
