Created by Art Davie and Rorion Gracie in 1993 the club QUEEN, to find the best fighter in the world, all weights and all styles. The basics of the UFC just tournaments Brazilian Vale Tudo. Often seen as violent and brutal, with few rules as possible, the UFC allows fighters from different styles to meet and determine the "best" martial art. The first UFC fight resembled circus, a cage instead of a ring, opponents and trample send elbows in the neck, face bloody and terrible KO: all the ingredients are there for the media interested and Unleashed.
Critics are many politicians get involved and put pressure on the organizers. With a lucrative contract with Fox Sports Net and now Spike TV and the very recent legalization of MMA in California (2006) and across Europe (Italy, Spain, Switzerland, Belgium, Poland, Luxembourg), the UFC is currently the rise and booming media. Not content to broadcast their events on pay-per-view in the United States, Brazil, Australia, Canada, Italy, New Zeland, the UFC can also be viewed on ESPN in the United Kingdom and Ireland on RTL9 in France as well as in 150 countries around the world and in 22 different languages.
The first event held outside the United States is the UFC or UFC JAPAN 05.15 21 December 1997. Today, the UFC holds events around the world (U.S., UK, Canada, Japan, Brazil, Sweden, Germany, Ireland, Australia and China).
Apart from its rules, the UFC has another carctéristique which distinguishes it from other organizations MMA. It is his cage. An octagon approximately 9.50 m diagonal, raised to 1.20 m above the ground. It is fenced by pillars covered with protective plastic and interconnected by a grating. Closing this measure 1.76m high. The term "Octagon" is a trademarked term, as its dimensions. Competing organizations do not have the right to use it.
The fighters also have rules to follow at their outfits. These rules are essentially the same in all MMA organizations. They must wear special gloves mitten-shaped, padded suffisamant to avoid fractures of the hand but the fingers open to allow the phases Grappling. There is an obligation to wear a shell to protect the parties, and a mouth guard. The shoes are prohibited.
The shorts can be of different types, similar to those used in all combat sports (but it must be short). They should not come with an object in the octagon and must have fingernails. Les premiers combats de l'UFC ressemblaient aux jeux du cirque, une cage au lieu d'un ring, des adversaires qui se piétinent et s'envoient des coups de coudes dans les cervicales, des visages ensanglantés et de terribles KO : tous les ingrédients sont là pour que les médias s'y intéressent et se déchaînent. Les détracteurs sont nombreux, les politiciens s'en mêlent et mettent la pression sur les organisateurs. Petit à petit, contraints et forcés, l'UFC doit changer, plus de règles pour protéger les combattants, introduction de limite de temps puis de catégories de poids, passage devant des commissions sportives, test anti-dopage, la marche vers un sport et non plus un spectacle sanglant est amorcée. Grâce à ce revirement et à ce changement d'image, peut-être au détriment de la pureté de la compétition originelle, la manne financière peut revenir, avec notamment la très rentable retransmission télévisée en pay-per-view. Avec un contrat juteux avec Fox Sports Net et maintenant Spike TV et la légalisation très récente du MMA en Californie (2006) puis un peu partout en Europe (Italie, Espagne, Suisse, Belgique, Pologne, Luxembourg), l'UFC est actuellement en pleine ascension et en plein boom médiatique. Non content de diffuser leurs évènements en pay-per-view aux États-Unis, Brésil, Australie, Canada, Italie, et en Nouvelle Zéland, l'UFC peut également être visionnée sur ESPN au Royaume-Uni et en Irelande, sur RTL9 en France ainsi que dans 150 pays dans le monde et dans 22 langues différentes. Le premier évènement organisé hors États-Unis est l'UFC JAPAN ou UFC 15.5 le 21 décembre 1997. Aujourd'hui, l'UFC organise des evenements un peu partout dans le monde (États-Unis, Royaume-Uni, Canada, Japon, Brésil, Suède, Allemagne, Irelande, Australie, Chine). Hormis ses règles, l'UFC possède une autre carctéristique qui la distingue des autres organisations de MMA. Il s'agit de sa cage. Un octogone d'environ 9.50 m de diagonale, surélevé à 1.20 m du sol. Il est cloturé par des piliers recouverts de protections en plastique et reliés entre eux par un grillage. Cette cloture mesure 1.76m de haut. Le terme "Octogone" est un terme déposé, tout comme ses dimensions. Les organisations concurrentes n'ont pas le droit de l'utiliser. Les combattants ont eux aussi des règles à respecter au niveau de leurs tenues. Ces règles sont pratiquement les mêmes dans toutes les organisations de MMA. Ils doivent porter des gants spéciaux en forme de mitaine, suffisamant rembourré pour eviter les fractures de la main mais ouvert au niveau des doigts pour permettre les phases de Grappling. Il y a obligation de porter une coquille protégeant les parties, et d'un protège dents. Les chaussures sont interdites. Les shorts peuvent être de différents styles, semblable à ceux utilisés dans tout les sports de combats (mais ce doit obligatoirement être un short). Ils ne doivent pas entrer avec un objet dans l'octogone et doivent avoir les ongles coupés. Un arbitre vérifie que ces conditions sont respectées juste avant l'entrée dans la cage. These fights caused an uproar down here and I don't think they are allowed to do it here now though I think a Kiwi is quite good at it in Japan. Great use of lettering in this image.
