Still at Stourton Gardens! Here you see an obelisk about which I know nothing.
Have a good day.

On Wikipedia (under 'Stourton'), it is described thusly: "an obelisk and King Alfred's Tower, a 50-metre-tall, brick folly designed by Henry Flitcroft in 1772." So, it's pretty old! I think it's a cool looking tower :) Nice capture, Jeff!

A superb composition, but a little 'blue', Jeff! This is actually not the obelisk, but a monument called the Bristol High Cross. "Bristol High Cross was a monumental market cross erected in 1373 in the centre of Bristol. It was built in Decorated Gothic style on the site of an earlier Anglo-Saxon cross, to commemorate the granting of a charter by Edward III to make Bristol a county, separate from Somerset and Gloucestershire. It was moved to the Stourhead estate in 1780" (Wiki)

LOL, about your: "of which I know nothing"! You're too honest, Jeff. You just have to imagine something, and we believe you. :D But that church at the back, I like that even better. In the mean while I've read what our Andrea told about it. She's really 'a walking Wikipedia' :D

To me it looks like the spire of a church that got chopped off and planted nearby; cool to read the history. Lovely capture!

I did a little research and this was built in 1839 to replace the decaying original erected by Henry Hoare II in 1746. At the base there is a memorial tablet dedicated to Henry, added by Richard Colt Hoare in 1815. I found this info on Stourheadgarden.blogspot.com The architecture here is so sweet with beauty. :)))))) The church is truely beautiful. :))))))) Gorgeous area my friend. :)))))) Most excellent capture. :))))) Thank you for sharing all of the beauty you see. :))))) Carry A Smile In Your Heart :))))))
