Description

As the Cocoon finally reaches Earth orbit and the fuel from its PAM booster finally gives out the fours sets of explosive bolts which hold Cocoon’s base plate, nose cone and two side panel sections together fire to separate the sections from its internal payload. The payloads inertia will now carry it into Earth orbit and waiting robotic arms of NASA’s Orbital Shuttle Atlantis. The payload of Cocoon on this day has been the four airlock docking units which will be fitted to the Upper and Lower Rotational Modules of the MMS-1 Spacecraft. These units, once fitted, will allow docking to take place at multiple points on the fully completed spacecrafts outer hull as well as allow astronauts to exit the spacecraft to make external visual inspections of the spacecraft and carry out other tasks.
