Description
Taken early March when these were all in bloom.
The Queen Wilhelmina Tulip Garden, bearing the name of the late queen of the Netherlands, is situated on John F. Kennedy Drive near Great Highway. It is a somewhat secluded, quiet part of the city, close to Ocean Beach, and home to a large Dutch-style windmill, which has become a popular site for visitors. In addition to being a popular wedding venue, the area is best known for its spectacular tulip garden.
The best time of the year to come is when the tulips are in bloom, in late February, but no matter when you go, expect to be wowed by the sheer number of flowers. Tulips in the thousands are interspersed with Icelandic Poppies, creating a dazzling array of colors and smells. It’s an excellent place to enjoy a good book, walk around, or generally relish the experience of the great outdoors.
