I have a photo of me at 3 years old standing on one of the stones..not allowed now! BTW the platform party in my photo of today are not students but the most senior staff who had to sit there for hours every day for a week.

just up the road from my birthplace, i remember when you could roam freely through the stones, just as it should be

Outstanding image. I can't remember seeing it from this POV. Nicely dramatic sky and excellent composition with one blue stone(?) just peeking out at the center.

I remember being a child and finding myself inordinately confused as to why Stonehenge was given its particular name. It doesn't look much like a hinge. I still think that, occasionally. This is a great shot and I love the way you've clearly captured the stone textures on this distinctly non-hinge shaped dolmen. This is a great shot.

A bit of mindless trivia for you. In the Lake District, there is a fell called Grassmoor. Its at the northern end and affords superb views North over to Wigton, Silloth and across the Solway Firth to Scotland. Anyway, at the top of Grassmoor is a stone cairn built by walkers keen to mark their ascent, battered as it is by howling gales 99.9% of the time. Several paces away from the cairn, walking toward the Isle of Man, if you like, is a wonderful replica of Stonehenge, built in miniature out of local pebbles, most likely local slate. It is no more than 40mm high, and I doubt there are too many people on the planet who have noticed it. I did, and i wondered at the nature of the person who built it, much as visitors to Wiltshire do about it's significantly older & larger cousin!

A fine shot of this landmark with a dramatic sky for backdrop. I visited it over 40 years ago on the way to a big rock festival at Bath, but didn't get anywhere near as good a shot as this. Whenever I see pictures of Stonehenge, I can't help thinking of the scene in National Lampoon's European Vacation when Chevy Chase backs his car into one of the stones & they all topple like dominoes. Not a great movie, but there were a few memorable moments...
