Description

Now that Thanksgiving is over, here's a little something for Black Friday. Heh. Now, if you will follow me here for a moment: I was thinking about LuxRender lately. My poor, tired computer can't really run things like that, and least not reasonably. I was looking lustfully at the latest CPUs, and reading about how the really expensive video cards can make all the difference in the world. And then, I thought, so what? I searched Renderosity for some LuxRender pictures. Now, Lux does a fantastic job on rendering certain things. It's just that, in my opinion, human beings are not really its strength. Some of the people I see look no different from Poser or DAZ Studio renderings, and it takes twenty times as long. So, this here may not be the best picture in the world, but it represents the limit of what I can do with my current computer, the software that will run on it, and my present skill level. I used every trick I could think of. And LuxRender says...? I suppose I do need a new computer one of these days. After all, my computer has been crashing more often lately, and the hard drive is making that "clank" sound fairly frequently. When the day of reckoning comes, do I really need to divert the funds to a machine capable of running LuxRender? Or should I just fix my ceiling fan instead? Opinions?? (By the way, I assume I don't need to explain why improving my pictures is a desirable thing. Around here, I just assume people would consider that a reasonable goal...)

First and foremost, this is an excellent picture. the lighting is wonderful and the posing/setting is great Regarding your computer vs your ceiling fan. while getting the ceiling fan fixed/replaced is perhaps a great idea. It is kind of embarassing to have the fan crash down in the middle of dinner or such and decapitating your mother or some other relative or friend. that being said, replacing the computer to a more powerful machine with extra memory/ video power and very large & fast hard drives does several things: it allows you to contiune your excellent artwork for all to share, with the additional bonus of getting the render done quickly, more so than with the old one (anything is faster than a dead computer, right?) and if you are like a lot of other people who render and do other things on the computer, having your old one dying in the midst of a project could lead to things like going insane, ripping the ceiling fan out of the ceiling and using it on your mother/relative/friend. and perhaps preventing the subsequent visit to the local police department and other such nasty things, like the 27 8by10 colour glossies with the circles and arrows and the paragraph on the back of each one stating what each one was... I rest my case good luck on the new computer

intstead of lux render check out octane render-they have a plug in for poser9 and pro2012 you will still need a nice nvidia gpu i think it does a better job than lux personally

'Clank' from a hard drive is not a good thing. I'd recommend at the least that you mirror it with a new hard drive or get a back up done at once. The nice thing about mirroring is that you can subsequently remove the old hard drive and carry on with the new hard drive. In any case, I think you did a hell of a good job bringing out the realism here. That includes your posing which looks so natural that you could swear the characters are moving. Well done.

Guess I never did such an awesome Poser render. How long did it take (to render)?

Knechtruprecht: I'm not sure how long it took. I let it go overnight. Let's just say "hours."
