Description

I know I always say full size is best but this one really needs it. This memorial image comes in part courtesy of my friend Rayvn who gifted me her Denise a few days ago. I had commented what a beautiful girl she was - and not only is she beautiful she is an easy girl to dress which is surprising given that she is totally stacked. She also takes light very well. A pleasure. Thank you Ray, for some reason Denise was just the right girl at the right time. My father passed away on 2 November after years of suffering a debilitating illness. The father who lovingly raised me was lost to me a long time ago so I was not really sad at his passing over. It was a release for both him and my family and so I did not rush into making a memorial for him. But now is the time. Here I show my brother and me. My mom is the little white rat looking to be picked up and hugged :-) This may seem strange, but it makes me smile because my mom and I both love rats and many years ago we shared a pet white lab rat that we named Bonnie. My father was a scholar and educator and so the priestess holds a book. When he was a boy on the farm he raised magpies and he had a life long love of the crow family - a love that he passed on to me. All his life he always had feeding stations for corvids - much to the chagrin of some of his neighbors! When he was a boy he had a shepard cross named Snip. Snip looked after my dad, never left his side when he was off tending the cows and always got my dad home across acres of fields at night. But my grandparents were cheap and so they didn't feed Snip very well. One night Snip killed some neighbors chickens and in a fit of rage my grandfather shot and killed Snip. Family honour trumped family love. My father never forgave his father and never got over the loss of his best friend. Even as a grown man he would still choke up and cry whenever he thought about Snip. I never learned this and other sad miseries of my father's childhood until I was an independent adult but it was one of the many reasons why I came to despise my so called "pillars of the community" grandparents. They were fakes, hiding behind a false sense of honour and family pride. Given that my father was an abused child it is amazing that he turned out to be such a fantastic dad because he sure didn't have much of a dad himself. Anyways, I always knew that Snip would be waiting for my Dad at rainbow bridge and so I put her here waiting for him. Sorry, I can't write anymore now. The story of Snip and my dad always makes me cry. I'm just glad knowing that a few weeks ago he and Snip were rejoined at last and they are now free to roam the fields as they wish and that they will always have a safe place to come home. Oh Roxy, so sorry to hear of the passing of your father. I know you probably felt as sense of relief as he was trapped. I felt the same way when my father passed from terminal cancer. It feels very very sad to loose yet that they are delivered from their agony give you a feeling of release. I am sure he is at the Bridge with Snip and I bet Snip was so happy to see him so they could cross the Bridge together to share eternity. Sending you comforting hugs. Wonderful memorial image full of symbolism.

This is so beautiful and touching, Roxy. I'm sorry you've lost your Dad hon. I know how hard that is. He's in a better place now though, which is the comfort we can have. Our grandparent's generation were a whole different lot. Such stories are unfortunately too common. Still, it's sad they did some of the things they did. This is a very poignant story about Snip and your Dad. I'm sure they are reunited now and happy to be together once again. He made himself better than where he came from and I'm sure you're proud of him. Your image says so much and it's gorgeous work...a fitting memento-mori to your Dad. I'm glad I gave you Denise when I did :* She looks amazing. Hugs, honey.

Roxy, let me say first of all that I am so sorry for the loss of your Father. I was very moved by you're words, and can totally understand how you feel. It moved me to tears to read about what you're Father had to endure growing up, and it shows what great character he must have had to overcome it all.

As I read this, Roxy, I'm listening to Joanne Shenandoah's Dance of the North... Between the moving music, and reading this, I have to admit I have tears flowing.. I know well what you have been going through, my dear friend. My own father continues to linger in that nether world between here and there. Release would be a blessing for him. My thoughts and condolences fly across half a nation to you, Roxy. Blessed be, my dear friend. The symbolism you put into your art always amazes me, but this one is absolutely off the scale - truly a masterpiece, and I'm sure your father is smiling down upon you. Truly a beautiful and very moving memorial. Sending a big hug your way..
