Description
For 70 years, the Gellibrand light located off Williamstown Australia, helped ships to determine their position and safely navigate through darkness and fog as they approached the mouth of The Yarra River. Throughout these years, keepers lived on the structure to tend to the light and foghorn. The lighthouse was in service until 1976, when it was struck and destroyed by the vessel 'Melbourne Trader' in heavy fog. Please zoooom if you would like to see more detail.

It must have bee great fun to make!

What an impressive model! A work of art! And...what a real shame that the lighthouse itself was wreaked and destroyed by a ship that never saw the lighthouse!!!??? Was it decommissioned by then? That would be about right! Shame. Rob

what a remarkable structure Andrew, thanks for the information

Great capture and great history. Love it. It is ridiculous that a ship collides with the lighthouse that is guiding it to avoid collisions. By chance, did the captain had as second officer Johnnie Walker or Jim Beam?;)
