I'm having issues with Wildfire myself, not sure I trust it at all. As for PNG vs Jpg formats, PNG is a lossless format which retains Color and Content no matter what it's resized to which is why most Renderers offer it as an Image output format. Jpg is a very lossy Format which looses integrity with any type of Resizing or any type of operation done to the image. I always use Png for Raw outputs, do any and all Postworking and Saving of original completed image in PNG format and then convert to 300dpi and Jpg only for Printing and Posting on the Web.
