Description
Okay, finally at the the end of the Mesa Verde cliff dwelling series - I hope I haven't strained your patience too much.
This kiva at Spruce Tree House was the only kiva we were allowed to enter. It had a wooden roof with an opening through which you could descend via the ladder. I wish I could report that I felt the spirit of ancient pueblo dwellers or had a spiritual vision while down there, but I can't. But it did feel like a sacred space...
I was shocked to find out today that I am one of the 15 nominees for Photographer of the Year. What an honor to be in such select company! I would encourage everyone to visit the galleries of all 15 nominees & then vote for your favorite (before Dec. 31). You can find the details here.

Nice Claude. It reminds me of a scene from Far Cry 2!

Thank you for posting this. I've read about kivas but have never seen a photo of the inside of one. smile It is sacred space, it comes as no surprise to me that you felt it. I envy you. The photo is wonderful, has an otherworldly air to it.

Ah, and that seems the "parlor" to be. Your thoughts regarding spiritual magic show that you are a very sensitive and imaginative man. The best conditions for creativität. My congratulations on the nomination! You've earned it honestly. Your pictures are always a delight!

There is a very interesting kiva too, in Aztec Ruins (near Farminton, NM)

That's a great shot. In a round room there are no corners for evil to hide in.

A wonderful image with great foreground.

Lovely light, and the blue shadows lend a nice counterpoint to the orange tones. I'm glad to see this one with a roof ... it shows how the poles were supported on those pilars. I'd been noticing that and thinking about it in earlier shots, and it's fun to see how close I was to being right about their construction methods! Great image.

Stunning work.

This must have been a special place to have visited and I notice the worn ladder rungs where thousands have come to experience what you have seen!
