Description

This sasanqua camelia is one of the Autumn flowering sorts, which do so much to bring new life to the garden even before the shortest day. It is free-flowering, upright and vigorous.

Beautiful with its sugary icing! Somehow it seems wrong for it to have a man's name, though!

I love the white fringe this has: it's almost like some of the extravagant candies I've seen in various places: really delicate things with a sugar frosting that does that "margarita thing" around the edges. That frost is such a wonderful accent to the colors: something of a surprise and it establishes a nice tension as I see it: the colors imply a kind of warmth, but the frost is there, telling you that warmth has decided to go elsewhere: maybe for a holiday, and so it raises all sorts of nice, existential questions, which is what art is supposed to do! This is super.

Excellent color and contrast in this portrait of the hardy camelia, A! It has to be vigorous if those ice crystals are any indication.
