Description

Modeled in 3dsmax. Rendered in LuxRender (v1.0RC3). The featured shape here is based on an original sculpture concept created by Bathsheba Grossman, called "Metatron". She's created many real-world, 3D-printed mathematical sculptures like this one. I truly admire her work, and wanted to reproduce this amazing shape in 3dsmax. There's also been many other derivatives of this twisted double-tetrahedron family of shapes I've seen done in apps like Topmod, and other topological modelers. This one is all 3dsmax, and began as a tetrahedron object; the faces then extruded and bridged along spline curves. Textures compliments of cgtextures.com and other free repositories. The base was a lathe object, and the cloth created from a simple plane with cloth modifier. Rendered in Luxrender. Enlarge for full details.
