Description

PLEASE ZOOM otherwise what's the point :) My first attempt at a deep-sky object. Considering that the telescope was nearly horizontal (meaning lots of cr*ppy Derby air to see through), I'm very happy with the way this turned out. Unfortunately my telescope is a bit too powerful at minimum magnification to encompass the whole Orion nebula, so this is just the core. The nebula is a region of space where stars are forming without any help from Simon Cowell. It is a stack of 60 x 20 sec exposures at ISO 800, and 60 x 20s at ISO 3200, making about 40 minutes all-in. It's worth noting that a single 20 second exposure at F15 produced a reasonable result, so any of you with a fast-ish 300mm lens or above might want to have a go at this yourself. Thanks for looking & have a great weekend (I think I'm coming down with the 'flu so going to go to bed with a large brandy...) ~Steve~

Nice shot of the stars-kindergarten. Who can imagine the stories of each planet of these stars? Thanks for sharing. //JL

Fantastic shot, very impressive. One of my most favourite nebulas. It puts my one attempt at shooting it to shame... Just waiting for a clear night here...
