Description
I finished reading Terry Pratchett's novel 'Nation' for a second time and was motivated to create this image of Princess Ermintrude aka "Ghost Girl", only 4 layers away from being naked! Her Grand Ma-Ma would not approve (but it's just too warm there!)
If you have not read this story, you should check it out ( http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nation_%28novel%29 ). Most people know about Pratchett's 'Discworld' novels, but his other 'alternate universe' works are superbly creative as well.
'Nation' is a world of what-if; what-if back at the height of the British Empire, a flu epidemic kills not only the King of England, but 139 of his heirs, leaving the throne to an unsuspecting man currently governing islands in the South-East Asia. Then suppose that his only daughter, while enroute to join him, is shipwrecked during a tsunami in the South Pacific. Being a 13 year old 'Lady' and completely innocent of any skill required to survive in the real world, she struggles through such traumas as how to properly invite the only other survivor (the native boy named Mau) to a tea party, given there are no clocks, he & she have no addresses, there's no chaperone (except for the dead captain still tied to ship's wheel), and of course Mau can't read the formal, gold-inlaid letterhead used in her invitation.
But fear not! This is no 'Blue Lagoon' story of young love. The island slowly fills with damaged refugees, as Ghost-Girl and Mau become the accidental leaders, and the story ends as the 'Empire' rescues Ermintrude with her virtue intact, the young woman having gained a great reputation as a powerful spirit-woman, brewer of superb beer, and handy at amputating limbs.
