Description

Stark Snow covered branches Seem lacy messages Written In Winter's script Paw prints In last night's snow Tell their own story In a city of hills Snow and ice on the streets Is more than just An annoyance Dim light Snow on snow Soft dark nights Flakes falling under streetlights Sun comes out And my summer table Wears a tall hat Icicles hang from the eaves Dripping diamonds Sparkle and flash Please Stand somewhere else ........... The December challenge for the Writer's Gallery is SNOW. This isn't a contest, only a challenge to see what you can come up with when given a single topic and a limited amount of time. I got the idea for doing vignettes from Chip. He's created another wonderful world, and in this one people leave small stories lying around, carved on stones. I read his latest post and was immediately inspired!

Oh, I love these! They are so perfect! All of them are little gems, a bit like actual snowflakes: they're all so distinct from each other, but they're all the same thing in that big sense that "snow" is snow, but its made up of no-two-things-that-look-alike and yet they are all alike because they're distinct. It's so circular! I love the idea that pawprints in snow tell their own stories! How super! All of these are marvelous, and I like the way it spirals off in those directions that Ancient Egyptian poetry tended to spiral off in unexpected directions. I particularly got that with the last poem. It is wonderfully descriptive and ethereal (despite being concrete) and then it ends with that humdinger of a close. "Please/stand somewhere else." I laughed, because I got the vague idea that on a day after shoveling snow and getting cold fingers, Shepat would say such a thing to the snow about to fall from the clouds above. Being a guy from Gwot, that's probably something he'd say TO the snow and ice." These are brilliant and I'm glad to see them! It's probably not unexpected, but I got inspired from THESE...but then, I think that's actually the idea behind Gwotians leaving stuff on stones for other people to find...somebody did it, inspired somebody else, who then inspired somebody else, and the next thing you know, you have all of these stories laying around (literally) all over the place. I've still got the wonderful images you've conjured in my mind, and they're gonna stay there a while. Especially the nicely mysterious ones...and a summer table wearing a tall hat, as summer tables should do in winter! I love the image also. It's the epitome of snow and its so elegant. This is brilliant!

Oooooh! I love how each little poetic vignette carries one to the next .. a little trail of words in the snow .. to follow .. being careful to not stand there ... to think that I thought the white thumbnail would open to a snowy visual scene, and it did, but now the way I expected! This is a little jewel to be treasured and savored through the winter
