Description
Some of the fantastic formations at Needles seemed to stretch & repeat as far as the eye could see - it truly is a monumental landscape. Some folks commented on my last photo that it looked like an alien landscape out of Star Trek. I had a discussion with one of the hikers I met out there & we both agreed that the landscape reminded us of the setting we imagined in our minds while reading the Edgar Rice Burroughs "John Carter on Mars" series of books as young boys...

of all the places I've been, Needles was the most baked, lonely, sparse and hellish place I remember. Not far away are the California dunes but that is only a change of soil - it's all hardened and wicked. Fabulous shot of this lost land.
